Union University was established in 2005. It was founded by three faculties; the Faculty of Construction Management, the School of Design, and the School of Industrial Management (later the Faculty of Business and Industrial Management). Soon after, the following higher education institutions joined as co-founders: the Belgrade Banking Academy – Faculty of Banking, Insurance and Finance, the School of Computing, the Union University Faculty of Law (formerly the Faculty of Business Law), the Faculty of Real Estate Management, the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship and College of Environmental Engineering. In March 2010, the Faculty of Construction Management, the Faculty of Real Estate Management, the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship and College of Environmental Engineering pulled out of the University. When the School of Design closed down in 2011, Union University was left with four constituent members; the Faculty of Industrial Management, the Belgrade Banking Academy, the Faculty of Computer Science, and the Union University Faculty of Law. However, the Academy of Fine Arts (2012) and Faculty of Law and Business Studies Dr Lazar Vrkatić (2013) soon became constituent faculties. In April 2015, the Faculty of Business and Industrial Management withdrew from the university. Presently the university consists of the following; the School of Computing, the Belgrade Banking Academy, the Faculty of Law Union University and Faculty of Law and Business Studies Dr Lazar Vrkatić.
The university offers higher education in four scientific fields: Natural Sciences and Mathematics (undergraduate, master’s, and PhD), Social Sciences and Humanities (undergraduate, master’s, and PhD), Technical Sciences (undergraduate, master’s, and PhD), and the Arts (undergraduate and master’s) at the premises of relevant constituent faculties. All the faculties implement their respective study programs in accordance with the Bologna Declaration. As an association of higher education institutions, the university enables the exchange of knowledge and experience in various educational and scientific fields. Our objective is to ensure successful functioning of the constituent faculties on the basis of the traditions and values of both Serbia and Europe. Our particular goal is to educate our students in accordance with the stated intention of Serbia to join the European Union and to accept the complex of European values – the acquis communautaire, i.e., the corporate governance, and to mediate contemporary scientific results.
At the same time, we continually work on establishing cooperation with non-European universities as well. We are open to all forms of cooperation in the fields of education and science based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and objectivity. In education reform and in the process of stabilization and accession to the EU, the university strives to achieve the highest possible quality of education for the students. With that objective, the university aspires to formulate contemporary study programs, to provide quality teaching staff, and to set high standards of quality education.
Universities can be high-ranking only if their alumni become qualified professionals and hard-working citizens. As a private-funded university, we strive to achieve this goal every day – we want to educate professionals whose knowledge and expertise will be worth more than a diploma.
The Head Office of the University is in Belgrade, in the historical part of the city, on Kosančićev Venac Street, No 2/5.
